Dr. Laronda is named the Warren & Eloise Batts Scholar


Monica M. Laronda, PhD was named the Warren & Eloise Batts Scholar. The investiture ceremony took place on January 25th, 2018 and was held at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago Robert R. McCormick Foundation Auditorium. Dr. Laronda was joined by Oren J. Becher, MD, who received the Rory David Deutsch Malignant Brain Tumor Research Scholar, and Ruchi S. Gupta, MD, MPH who received the Mary Ann and J. Milburn Smith Research Professorship for a Sr. Scientist in Child Health Research.

The Warren and Eloise Batts Research Scholar was established in 1997 by Mr. and Mrs. Warren Batts to support promising young research scientists. The Batts Research Scholar has previously supported Xiao-Di Tan, MD (2001-2008), Jill Morris, PhD (2009-2011) and Nikia Laurie, PhD (2013-2016). The Batts also have generously supported Lurie Children’s Division of Cardiology. Mr. Batts is a Senior Director of both the Lurie Children’s Medical Center and Foundation Boards, and received the George D. Kennedy Distinguished Leadership Award for his service to the Medical Center.
